Australian Government To Provide COVID-19 Assistance Package
It is a tough time for all of us as we deal with the effects of coronavirus or COVID-19. Tenants in particular are concerned about the loss or uncertainty of income and how they will pay rent. One option is the temporary Coronavirus Supplement from the Australian Government.
On 22 March, the government announced it will provide financial assistance to people affected by the coronavirus. The supplement will be $550 a fortnight to new and existing income support recipients will be given from 27 April for six months. People will receive their usual payment plus $550 each fortnight for the six month period.
The Australian government states you will need to meet all the eligibility rules to get a payment. You may get the payment if you are unable to work, in isolation or hospitalised or caring for children.
The Coronavirus Supplement will be provided to people receiving:
- JobSeeker Payment
- Sickness Allowance
- Youth Allowance for jobseekers
- Parenting Payment Partnered
- Parenting Payment Single
- Partner Allowance
- Sickness Allowance
- Farm Household Allowance
